Your health is important to us. And though we hope to send you abroad for an adventure free of complications and concerns, we also know it’s smart to send you prepared for anything. That’s why we recommend the following health and travel insurance providers. They are companies we personally use and trust, so you can too.
Health Insurance Abroad
One of the questions we’re asked frequently is “How do I get insurance for my trip abroad?” and our first answer is usually to check with your current health care provider to see if they offer an international plan. Some people will be surprised to learn they’re already covered; others will want to purchase different or additional insurance.
Compass Benefits Group
We highly recommend Compass Benefits Group for your health insurance abroad. Compass was created specifically for traveling students and scholars like you. Their plans are comprehensive, and all of them include Medical Evacuation, Repatriation, Emergency Assistance and a Nurse hotline. Check out their plans and call for a quote.
To our English Fellows in Colombia, it’s a requirement to have international insurance that will cover you for the duration of your contract, in addition to the local medical insurance that’s provided in your fellowship package. If you’re in need, use this link for a package created especially for our Teach English in Colombia Program.
AIA: The Real Life Company
To our TEFL Thailand participants, a representative from the Thai Insurance Company, AIA, will visit you during the course to explain the company’s various plans and prices. Since this agency only covers people who are legally working in Thailand, you won’t be able to sign up until you have your work permit in hand, but it’s a great provider should you plan on staying and teaching in Thailand for a while. Allianz offers super low cost, comprehensive plans with a variety of options whether you’re doing just a few months abroad or you need an annual plan that covers you for emergency medical and dental coverage plus any hiccups that could happen with your travels throughout the year.
For those traveling for less than three months, you might consider World Nomads. It’s super simple to set up since you can buy, extend and claim online, even after you’ve left home. Travel insurance from WorldNomads.com is available to people from over 150 countries. Not only are their plans designed for adventurous travelers like you, with cover for overseas medical, evacuation, baggage and a range of adventure sports and activities, but their customer service staff is friendly and fair should you ever need to make a claim or ask a question.
